About the drip
What the High Dose Vitamin C Drip is
A single-ingredient infusion: vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in a saline base, at one of three fixed doses. 6.25g is a moderate dose. 12.5g and 25g are high doses, well beyond what can be absorbed from tablets, which is the point of giving it intravenously: oral vitamin C absorption falls sharply above a few hundred milligrams, whereas IV delivery produces blood levels that cannot be reached by mouth.
High-dose IV vitamin C is studied in hospital settings for specific conditions. It is not licensed for any of them in the UK, and we do not offer it to treat anything. What we offer is the infusion itself, prepared in our pharmacy, with the screening it requires.

Screening for the higher doses
Before a 12.5g or 25g infusion we require a G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) blood test. People with G6PD deficiency can develop haemolysis (red blood cell breakdown) after high-dose vitamin C, and the deficiency is more common in people of African, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and South Asian heritage, often with no symptoms. We also ask about kidney disease, kidney stones and iron overload, all of which rule the higher doses out.

What to expect

Settle in
You will be seated in a reclining chair in a private treatment room.

The cannula
A trained clinician inserts a small cannula, usually into the arm or hand, and connects the infusion. Most people describe a small scratch and nothing more.

The drip
You are free to read, work or rest while the drip runs. We check on you throughout.

Afterwards
We stay with you for a short period afterwards. You can drive, work and carry on with your day immediately.

Safety and suitability
Every IV infusion at FastHeal Clinic Woking starts with a consultation and health screening. A prescriber reviews your medical history, current medicines and any allergies before anything is prepared. Some people should not have an IV nutrient infusion, including anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone with kidney disease, heart failure, or certain metabolic conditions, and anyone under 18. If we are not confident an infusion is appropriate for you, we will say so and suggest an alternative.

Frequently asked questions
Does high-dose vitamin C treat cancer or infections?
No claim of that kind is made here. It has been studied alongside conventional treatment in trials, with mixed results, and it is not a licensed treatment for anything in the UK. Anyone with a diagnosed condition should discuss IV vitamin C with their consultant before booking.
Why do I need a blood test first?
G6PD deficiency is silent until something triggers it. High-dose vitamin C is a known trigger. A one-off test rules it out and the result is valid for life.
What does 25g of vitamin C feel like?
Most people feel nothing beyond the infusion itself. Some feel thirsty, light-headed if they have not eaten, or notice a sour taste. Eat before you come.
